Beginner yoga
Beginner yoga in Bellefontaine
Starting yoga can feel intimidating, and we get it. People worry they are not flexible enough, not fit enough, or that they will be the only beginner in the room. None of that is true here. Half the reason this studio exists is so that the first class feels easy to walk into.
Is yoga good for beginners?
Yes. Yoga meets you where you are. You do not need to be flexible to start, the same way you do not need to be clean to take a shower. Flexibility and strength are things that come from practicing, not things you need before you begin.
How to start yoga at Homegrown
The easiest first step is to pick a gentler class and just come. Gentle Flow and Chair Yoga are made for beginners. Tell us it is your first time and we will help you with props, modifications, and where to put your mat. Then give it a few classes, because the first one is always the strangest and it gets better fast.
We suggest starting with the New Student Monthly Unlimited for $39 so you can try a few different classes in your first month and find the one that feels like yours. See prices.
Which beginner class should I take first?
Start with Gentle Flow if you want a slower vinyasa that teaches you the basics, or Chair Yoga if you would rather not get up and down off the floor. From there, All-Levels Vinyasa Flow welcomes beginners too, with easier options offered the whole way through. See all yoga classes.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?
No. Flexibility is a result of practicing yoga, not a requirement to start. Every pose has an easier version.
What if I am out of shape?
Then you are in good company, and you are exactly who beginner classes are for. Start gentle and go at your own pace.
What should I bring to my first class?
Comfortable clothes you can move in and a water bottle. We have mats and props at the studio. Come a few minutes early and let us know you are new. Read more about what to expect at your first class.
